I'm not sure if I've ever seen this asked before. Is there anything or should I spray/coat a conventional reel before spooling the line on it to protect from corrosion?

Try some T-9, before re-spooling and make sure you let it dry. The captains down in FLA use it all the time and it is great stuff

Alright, here's a secret everybody can share, it works pretty good, it's not a cureall, but, spray the spool with Pledge, you know, the stuff your wife dusts with, an old timer told me that, it seems to work, I'm no scientist, but it really does seem to work, only problem is you have to respool every year to be able to do it, I only respool everyother unless I see a problem.
