The name on the stern of my boat is gold mylar lettering decal and is trimmed with a fine line of blue paint. What is the best way to remove this cleanly? I used a heat gun on the first letter the decal came off very difficultly and the painted portion didn't come off at all.

Suggestions are appreciated in advance:huh:

easy off oven cleaner , watch overspray and do just a small sec. at a time. be careful don't breath the fumes.

As CanvasBack said. EasyOff. But this will only work on the paint. A heat gun verycarefuly will remove the decals and goofoff will remove the glue that remains.

Bad luck to remove the old name completely. Should keep it somewhere on the boat in small letters. I'm supersticious.

When I bought my boat it had the name painted on with gold leaf paint outlined in black. I used oven cleaner to no avail. I then used lacquer thinner with a green scouring pad. It worked well and did not harm Gelcoat. It did take about 4 hours to do it and alot of elbow grease. I would never use paint on a fiberglass transom with all the nice custom decals out there.

Is that you Scott ? The heat gun I use for shrink wrap will take decals off in a few seconds,nail polish remover will remove the paint without damage to the gelcoat.

Acetone will do it, wet a rag with it and rub the area
