This past season in the Sandy Hook area we saw a ton of sand eels. I would like to make up some umbrella rigs for trolling this fall and wondered what color surgical tubes I should get for making up the rigs. Also, how long do you guys run the middle leader coming off the umbrella to the eel....Thanks, Greg.

On a standard size rig (8 Tubes + Center tube) I create clips for my tubes.


The 4 outer get a tube clipped on to them (with a small piece of line) so they drop back about 12 inches.

The center Drops back about 6.

The 4 "Middle" loops in the line get teasers. I use silver colored spinners. I put the spinner on a split ring. Then Split ring to a swivel then another split ring - onto the spreader. This allows them to spin freely and flash.

For colors - I like Yellow, Green, White, and Black. We usually start with two different Umbrellas (For Example: A white and a yellow) We just rotate them out as they prove unproductive.

you can use red gills to. or eddystone eels as the new company i think it is. they work good as well.

You can fish the six or four arms with tube teasers or tube hooks and drop back 18" center line.

Depends on the size of the sluggos and bar but usually 2-3 feet. You will know what's right when you rig it.

sand eels set up that works for me, total cost was under 15 dollars in hand
