What's the proper name / type of the sandsharks that are commonly caught off the surf. The ones I tend to catch are of a silvery color with a white underbelly. I've caught them as big as 4 1/2 feet off the beach. What kind of shark is this? What other sharks are caught off the beach? Anyone have pictures?

probably a dogfish, watch out though, some of them have spines just behind the dorsal and they can hurt
And also teeth.... there are 2 types 1. smooth dog fish commonly known as sand shark, which are just simply harmless , some anglers use the small ones for bait inthe summer mos for fluking .. 2. is the spiny dog fish , looks just like the smooth but the different characteristics which as TI guys said has a spine at he dorsal , and they also have a full mouth of triangular seraded teeth ,just like a great white.... they can screw up a weekend if not handled properly ...
