Headed out on the Searcher II on sunday jan 24th with a 12 man charter that turned out to be a 11 person charter thanks to a last min cancelation.
So off we go at around 7ish, left the inlet and the seas where nothing like what they where calling for.
We go to our first and pretty much only spot, and right off the bat started to get fish. My first fish was landed and turned out to be a 7lb plus fish and already i had a good feeling about this trip. For the next hour or so we had a nice flurry of keepers and shorts coming over the rail. A small adjustment by the capt and we where going again grinding away at nice size fish.
Late that morning we had our shot up in the bow, a small area started to produce and i mean produce. Within about a half hour we had fish ranging from 9lbs to 13lbs coming over the rail in the net of course. Most of the these where caught on whiteleggers but one 10lb plus fish was caught on a shrimp. O the whiteleggers, getting those crabs for this trip well that is a hole story for another thread. But i think most of the fish where caught on the whiteleggers but other baits worked also but just not as well.
We easily had 9 fish over the 10lb mark and where very close to limiting out
Top fish of the day was 13lbs 10oz with a few more that where dam close.

Of course i had no camera for this trip but the mates did and a couple other guys did so i am waiting for the pics to get sent and then i wil post them
ASAP

This was a day to remember, a one of a kind day, ALL BIG FISH ALL DAY, we had nothing working in our favor for this trip, the weather was calling for terrible conditions, the bait was hard to get, the reports from EVERYONE was terrible, the water temp was too cold, many of us thought it was gonna be a tuff one, and it was, it was tuff on the arms. Before this trip my personal best blackfish was 8lbs plus, after this trip i now have at least 3 over the 10lb mark, truely a trip to remember.

KUDOS to the capt and to the 2 mates for doing an outstanding job of putting us on Fish

Well I usually get you should have been there yesterday not tommorrow. Nice job putting some meat in the box.
I won't believe this till I see pics, the day before sucked with no life and I know the swell had to still have the bottom jacked up. sorry justhecs, its not you its me

That's not just toggin', that's all fishing. The difference between their trip and ours? Maybe less swell, maybe the water temp was 1 degree warmer, maybe a little less current, maybe water that was a little clearer. We've all seen how a tiny factor can be all the difference between the bite being ON vs a total shutdown.

We'll them next time.
Awesome trip thanks for report
Are you serious??? I QUIT! If this report is a fact, then wtf went wrong saturday?

You fish enough to know that all it takes is one little variable to completely shut them off, or completely turn the bite ON.

My vote is that the big swell just had them shut down. That simple.
Yaa i know the swell ruined it for us saturday...but its crazy that it turned on that quick the next day. Hopefully i can get back out.
Justhecs I guess I owe you an apology
and this is the point where I quit!
Just drop all your fishing gear off at my house on your way into Ocean City, I'll let Meghan pick through it first, and I'll keep the rest.....:p:D:p

And congrats to the Sunday crew, that's a nice pick of tog you guys landed......
A day to remenber

Hey every dog has his day and sunday was ours, but not only was it mine but it was also many other people on the boat. We had absolutely PERFECT CONDITIONS in many ways n this is why we where able to do so well. I am truely greatful to have had a chance to fish in those conditions in the end of january and catch fish.
Odds are against me in ever having another trip like this again but that is what is going to keep me coming back for more.

Thanks for the replys, hope to get back out soon
