The media is going nuts with this, but the guy wasn't a swimmer (he was a kiteboarder, much farther out) and this is Martin County's first recorded shark death ever. That would even them up with Ocean County, NJ. ;)

The initial reports seem to suggest that he was bitten by more than one. A local "scientist & expert" has theorized that they were juvenile White sharks that have turned up in the area because the sharp noses they were feeding on had ventured further South to stay ahead of the colder than normal water.

It happened only a few miles from where Im living for the winter. I have a friend that knew him a fellow kite surfer and they all realy liked the guy. I wish there was an outpouring of money and help for incidents like this for his family.
Those guys love their sport. It blowin 20 to 30 right now and at least a dozen guys are up the street kiteboarding right now at Fort Pierce inlet.

Most likely it was a bull they account for most of the shark attacks in FL.

Every year when i go to ClearWater to see my grandparents and i go swimming I'm always cautious.

turns out it was only one shark that bit him... apparently he was still conscous when the lifey paddled out to him...

lotsa sharks down there esp at the mouth of that inlet. ive spent some time surfing that area and it does get sharky...
usually ya just lift your feet up and let lil buddy swim underneath you and they usually go away...
i guess a kiteboarder struggling to relaunch his kite was enough to trigger a shark.
