I remember reading somewhere on here about which winds generally affect the ocean and which affect the bay. Which make the ocean a calmer day and which make the bay a calmer day. I know wind in general will create waves but I was wondering if someone could fill me in a bit better. Thank you in advance for all and any input. Much appreciated.

time... speed ...duration... wave hight

the longer the wind blows and the speed at which it blows the higher the waves

Generally speaking white caps form around 15 knots

W and NW are better in the ocean close to the beach and not good in the bay. E and NE can work the same way. Not good in the ocean, but better if close the Jersey side in the bay.

chef, if you're thinking about the bay on Saturday, you can bet the bay will be ROCKING! Nowhere to hide from a west wind that strong.
