I have an aluminum boat that someone bottom painted. I think it was done properly, as I know aluminum requires extra steps. Anyhow there are some bare spots and signs of corrosion. I'd like to have the bottom blasted, then I would use etching primer and repaint the bottom. Will soda blasting clean the bottom enough for the etching primer, or will it need to be sand blasted? Next question is painting the bottom. I don't plan to leave it in the water, so what paint could I use on the bottom? Last but not least, who could I have do the blasting? I'm in western Chester county PA but I can trailer the boat to the blasters location. It's an 18 foot boat

Painting Aluminum

I did a 16' Starcraft a few years ago. I don't recall the exact products that I used but I do remember that once sanded or blasted, the aluminum would begin to oxidize immediately when exposed (aluminum oxide). It required immediate etching and priming to form a good bond.
It was a while ago. The internet has some great info.
