If you do dont forget your circle hooks and make sure you release everything:naughty:No keepers in April-May,.. I'd stay in Cape May personally.

You won't get many big ones there, but I've had a blast with a couple of buddies and light tackle in the flats in front of the DOD. Best off staying below the Commodore Barry. Make sure you point the bottom of the fish overboard ... they get a little excited in the spring and tend to make a mess

My biggest stripers came from that area in the spring:thumbsup:Keep the light tackle home and get them to the boat and released asap.These fish are usually fat with row and light tackle puts a beating on them.
THATS INTERESTING.i have never fished the river but have talked to many guys that do in that area and have done very well on the big ones catch and release. now across the way ,they have been known to catch and run.You won't get many big ones there, but I've had a blast with a couple of buddies and light tackle in the flats in front of the DOD. Very good point. If possible get a picture in the water and release ASAP

I had two great weeks in the Spring in the river with some very large fish. They turned on in my area of the river just after they turned off in the Maurice Cove. I try not to take the big girls out of the water when I release them. Clam out fished bloods.

Did get a lot of really nice fish on Clam. Has anyone heard if NJ is going to do the slot fish like PA for those months in the River? Not that I keep them just wanted to know.
I am wrestling with the same decision. My mom/pop still live in west deptford right by the boat ramp. I actually like putting in at national park better because it's easier IMO. Back on the subject....Through, paulsboro, national park and west deptford I found the best places are to target a area in which the water runs over a drop off. Since there are many bends, bars, islands in that area you can find places where the water goes from 8 foot to 25 feet and the water rushes over that drop off (fish the side where the water runs into the drop off). The bigger bass sit right on the other side of that drop off. I have done great through the years targeting those exact situations. I actually skip over the flats for that situation.
I'm skipping the river this year though because last year it seemed like the river (in the section you are referring to) was way to dirty. I mean tons of trash and debris every time I went out. I would bring my boat in and spend 2 days buffing out the marks on the hull. If there was a storm that week the debris was everywhere. Instead of the delaware river I am going to fish the egg harbor river this spring. My boat is right there in somers point so I should be good.

The river holds some nice big fish during the spring run. I haven't been able to catch any last year- Where ever I fished last spring The bay (the fish went up in the river) the river by Natty park and W.D. ( the fish were north more & then they were moving south of the Commadore) I just couldn't win last year, everytime I got out (when there was nice weather for me to get out), I would miss them. Just be careful in the River- lots of debris and A LOT OF DEBRIS especially after a storm or nice rain.
I think it's worth keeping the boat in the river for the short run we have here after that clean it up then put her down the shore for the rest of the year. I don't think i can pass up the opportunity to walk out back and be able to run 1 mile or 2 and be fishing. My property is on the Mantua Creek and my neighbor has a dock so i'm set! my biggest worry is debris in the river.

Depening on the weather I'll start around early to mid March and fish the area a couple miles south of the C&D and follow them to about the DE. Mem. bridge,will report on the freshwater page you will see when they are coming up your way,by the way I've caught 35-40lber's every year in that area on bloods and then live and fresh herring when they start running down my way...good luck
