I'm pretty handy when it comes to all my Penn's, but when it comes to the Stradic I just don't seem to have a clue.

Had a local shop service my Stradic (again) this year to the tune of $45. It's the second time in as many years that I've done so. Even so, after a couple uses it goes back to squeeking. It's not a lube thing - the reel is adequately lubed. Oddly enough the squeeking tends to subside a bit after I've been fishing for a while.

Other than the noise the reel works well, particularly the drag. But the squeeking drives me nuts - kind of ruins the solitude of a nice night. Any thoughts?

I had a problem recently with a Shimano that had a squeek, took the thing apart and clean and lube it. After putting it back together I still had the squeek, turned out to be the handle. A little hot sauce oil fixed the problem, hope this helps.

if you do send it to shimano - go to their site to get the address (i just don't have the zip code in front of me).

www.shimano.com send the reel to REEL REPAIR at their One Holland Dr address. The zip you must get from the website.

as for the 18 bucks for a new reel, i don't know about that one. they would go out of business if they did that.

Chris, I dunked the reel late last year and it got very tight.I sent it in for a cleaning and the service charge was $18.00. They Sent Me A Brand New Sustain 4000 at no additional cost and even sent me back my old spool with my power pro on it.. I say thats good buiness, I will buy from them in the future just because of that service.

In fact you can search my post from in the TackleBox Fourm if you don't believe me...

Same problem with mine was the handle.
I kept putting oil on it and it eventually wore out.
I called to order a new one and told them of the problem and they sent me a new one free of charge!

Thanks for responses guys. I thought (think?) it was the handle too. However I can't seem to get it to stop even after some TLC. I'll give Shimano a call as that seems to be the best bet at this point.

Shimano in irvine does an excellent job. Sometimes they will send back a new reel.
Unless it's a top of the line reel on the platnium service plan, be prepared to wait.
Current wait time is 9 weeks!
Friend of mine recently sent in 9 reels, 4 were sustains. They sent back 2 new sustains and serviced the rest. Was about 10 weeks wait!

Andy,
My Stratic just went tonight. I hooked a fish and it seemed the handle were the arm folds down stripped (now it wobbles) and the gears felt like they binded up (and makes a grinding sound)after I set the hook on a bass. I had to loosen the nut on the other side of the reel handle to get it to turn kind of smooth. The reel is less than a year old.

10 weeks to get them back  I better plan on sending mine in on Jan. 1 if I's like to get it back by spring. At least Penn is right across the Ben Franklin Bridge from me. They let me drop-off and pick-up off the reel and last year it took 2 weeks to get it back. Don't know if they have ever sent out a new one to replace a used one.
