Looking at making a move on a boat over a 1000 miles away.
I want to get it surveyed and put the deposit on it......

How do most guys go about this? "deposit pending survey" in the overnight paperwork with the money order?

Is there a good method to go about this? A tried and true method?

Procedure

Underdog,

When we sell a boat to a customer from a distance, at the buyer's request we will place the following wording on the sales agreement, "Deposit 100% refundable pending acceptable survey and/or sea trial by buyer."

What he said is perfect. Make sure the deal is contingent on good seatrial and surey. Also include you must be able to qualify and get financing if needed. Have the deposit refundable or you could lose it. Then look for a reputable surveror in the area. GOOD LUCK.

Know the laws of the place you are puchasing it from. If theres an issue that requires legal actions that is where the case would be heard. Private policys are only good as the states law that they were issued in.
