You will get a lot of different answers on this but lisson to the ones that actually run or have run these motors. I have twin Johnson 4 strokes; these are the same as the Suks, with the Johnson name on them. I am very happy with them and others that I know that run the Suks have been very happy with them as well. with a lot of motors each have their pro's and Cons' for the most part the Suks are not known for top end speed like the Mercs V's but the hole shot will be hard to beat with any other motor. The fuel economy is better than most if you are in the 140HP or less. Not sure with the 250’s and up. God forbid if I ever had to replace them I would strongly consider the Suks. Don't discount the Honda's these motors will run forever.

2 or 4 stroke? What horsepower/year?

They are usually great running motors. The biggest issue is with parts and service. The older ones can be VERY difficult to get parts for. The next issue is finding a good tech that can work on it if it's beyond your abilities. You will find a list of dealers on Suzuki's website, but if you call and ask them, a lot do not employ Suzuki trained techs. They also stock very few parts beyond oil, filters and water pumps. A lot of the dealers are dealers because they sell new boats that the manufacturer offers Suzuki power.

Not trying to bash Suzuki at all. I used to own one a while back and it was a great motor.

For parts Browns Point Marine mostly has everything. They in NJ but you can also order over the web.
Yes, Browns Point marine has it all.
I order from them and its at the door step in a few days.

I had a rare experience in 08 when a head gasket blow.
Suzuki had no problem changing the hole power unit instead of just trying to get away with just the head gasket.

All the parts were here in the U.S. Fixed in three weeks.

Other then that she runs great. And does 45 m.p.h.

The older 200's are prone to top cylinder faliure. Approx. $1500.00 plus if you can find someone to work on them. Parts for the older ones are hard to get. I once waited 12 weeks for a waterpump for a 9.9 that a customer brought in. It was also expencive. Hinch marina got the parts for me. This was about 6 yrs. ago.

2005 225 Four Stroke

Love my Suzuki 225 absolutlely no probs, sips gas, cranks my Viper 22 to 49mph and cruises all day on half the gas my Evin 115 two stroke used on a 19' C/C. Parts are available for the newer models 2000 and up and they're no more expensive than Honda or Yamaha. They also seem to have the best hp to weight ratio. 6 year warranty dosen't hurt either.

Sorry man for the politically incorrect way of saying Suzuki, if you read all my post you will see that I love my Johnson's (same as the DF's) and would not say they "SUK". I’ll do better next time I promises.
