Saturday July 3rd :
I had the pleasure of having Mike and Rita Pickert from PA aboard again on Saturday... Plans were to get outside and see if we could coerce the fish to bite that are laying around the reefs and wreck. NOAA's forcast looked great... I think they need to look out thier window once in a while, cause it blew Northeast to 20 all day...
Plan B was fish the back bay and hope to weed through the shorts and put a couple in the box for dinner... At days end we had 3 fish in the box to 21 inches.

Sunday July 4th:
Took the day off from fishing and ran the boat to Atlantic City to enjoy the evening and watch the fireworks at the Borgata with some friends. After a nice relaxing evening at Trump's Marina... we headed off in front of the Borgata with about THREE HUNDRED other boats and was treated to a fabulous display... Hats off to the Borgata for a great show.

Monday July 5th :
Back to fishing.... I had the Nemath family aboard for a family fishing outing. Again we were stuck in the back bay... 4-6's on the ocean would have made it very uncomfortable for these new comers to saltwater fishing. After feeding the greenheads in the morning... WITH OUR FLESH.. and putting up with tons of grass fishing the deeper spots, we went to the flats where we were able to get some pretty steady action... unfortunately short fish...
While Keith and his son Aiden (sp) weeded out the short fish, Deb was able to hook and boat our three keepers for the day... Can you say LADY LUCK ?? Keith did boat a couple of cocktail blues though...
The Nemath family with there catch :

All in all it was a great weekend of fishing with some great folks... the catching just needs to improve...
Word is that the inshore wrecks and reef sites are loaded with alot of nice Fluke... but with the bottom temps hovering around 44 degrees, as confirmed by divers at the marina... They have lockjaw.... when it warms up I expect some fabulous fishing to break open.

RICH-- I THINK FOR THE THIRD TIME IN 13 YEARS THE CAUSE IS THE LABRADOR CURRENT WHICH PUSHES COLD WATER TOWARDS THE EQUATOR. AS IT GETS EQUALIZED SHORTLY THERE SHOULD BE SOME SPECTULAR REEF FISHING.I HAVE SEEN MORE SM LING AROUND THAN NORMAL AND FLOUNDER STILL DIRTY OM THE WHITE SIDE.

Thanks for the report Rich A & your thoughts on the bottom temps/outfront fishing

Biggest - interesting point - I too noticed a lot of the flounder we caught yesterday had mud on the belly.

Looking forward to some deep water flounder fishing when it turns on.

BJ..
Divers that are spearing fluke on the reefs/wrecks are amazed at the amount of big fish out there... when they whack one... several others scatter everywhere...They are pulling fish over 10lbs.
