Got out yesterday. Took my limit of Tog again, all 14-16. Plenty of 13's, and a wee bit more of the shorts( I wasn't striper fishing I swear).

Reason for posting is this, loaded up on 4 and 5 V-Hooks. My buddy on a #5 and me on a #4. I took 10/13 fish. I did also do this: Bigger pieces of crab, hook just through the last two knuckles. Let 'em eat for a two count and then crossed their eyes. take it or leave it, I felt like a fisherman again after this trip. My buddy, well, that's another story.

Hey Dr. Bass ... I also went tog fishing yesterday, but did not do as well as you. I worked the Strathmere bridge for about 1/2 an hour and was only able to hook one nice tog just under five pounds. I had a lot of hits and had one half way up, which is a good sign. In the afternoon I hit up the GE Reef with Hooked4Life and there was nothing happening. We then moved to the poles at Seaview Harbor where we had a lot of fun catching 10-13 inch tog. It was a nice day on the water. Just wondering where you ended up fishing.

Yeah man, I am hooked for sure. Fried some up this weekend and had Tog sandwiches........ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Gonna try the grill next. I think it beats striper and flounder.

My friend Bob's wife Rose takes the tog filets and stuffs them with crab meat, just like you would flounder. He loves it that way.

Me, peronally I do not eat fish. Don't even like the smell of fish, but I'm hooked, I LOVE catching them, and tog are my favorite.

DR B, glad to hear that you got them again. It looks like we have another convert. A lot of people don't know what they're missing because they never try. You better stock up now. We are quickly approaching the "1 fish a day" season. That is the real test. Will you still go for them when you can only keep 1?

Oh yes, will do. I would take the first keeper and then fish just for fun. That way I at least get one fried Tog sandwich a week. Then when night falls , onto the bass and weakies, but that has just not been too rewarding lately for whatever reason.

GENERAL QUESTION TO DR.B OR TOGIN BOB OR ANY TOGER.DO ANY OF YOU FISH SODBANKS FOR TOG?ARE ALL BRIDGES TOG AREAS OR DO THEY HAVE TO BE NEAR AN INLET?ARE THERE ANY OTHER AREAS TO BE FISHED?

BJ, I never fish sod banks but the tog are there. I know some people who do it all the time. Any rock pile spells TOG.

I have never done the sod thing for Tog. I have a few good spots around rockpiles that have been producing everytime so no need actually. Heard it can be good with some chum. Think I have gotten a few Toglike hits around the sods but never caught one

I have never tried fishing the sod banks as I have have lots of luck with the bridges. I like to think that the closer the structure is to the ocean then the better. Like I wouldn't recommend trying the 34th street bridge into OC. I don't think that depth has much of an effect as you can catch tog in five feet of water next to an ocean jetty or around a dock. Let me know if you guys agree with this. Hope it helps

I fish the inlets alot and always see people catching tog. Normally, all I catch is skates or blues. So, for somehting new, I tried tog fishing. I got some crabs, and I got skunked! how do you catch a tog? I kept getting broken off. I know I was getting hits, but I couldn't land anything! help would be appriciated. BTW- I was using 2 once weights with 15 lb test.

2 ounces is light for any inlet. YOu need to be right on whatever structure you are fishing. Green or fidler crabs only, clam if desperate. Virginia # 4 or 5 as above. 100 % absolute focus and expect 50 % hook-ups on a good day.

I was down near ww. The 10th&11th Had a limit of tog both days.Second day was great 4 bites four fish in fifteen miin.That does not happen to often.I think i made a few people mad that were there when we got there.They left when i started bringing fish up 15 to 17 inches.They are hard to catch takes practice.Good luck if your getting stuck your pulling to late they come out grab the bait and take it right back in the rocks.

The best way to catch TOG is to get Scuba Certified and shoot them, this way you guarantee yourself a nice size fish, Last year I shot an 18 lb baby with my pneumatic spear gun (I do not remember the length, 30+ inches approx). I personally like the 8 to 10 pounders, they fight much better under water and can take you for a small ride sometimes.

I would suggest using a 6 ounce weight and look into fireline possibly, maybe like 12lb. test. Just to let you guys know I fished the Strathmere Toll Bridge today with Striperboy16 and we had a lot of action (Lots of shorts out there) although no keepers. We may try later this evening if the storms hold off
