Have you tried striper fishing lately? I fish spring in the river. The fish aren't there like in the past. 6 trips we got one a day. 10 yrs ago,was common to get 20 fish of all sizes. Now it's all 37 plus inches. We need to do something for the next generation of fish. No one even tries fishing Delaware bay anymore. Any thoughts on how to get more fish to spawning size? They are not here in the numbers they once were. Fishing used to be fun,now it's a boat ride.

I don't disagree that we need to restrict catches. But.....If you go to the NJ striper bonus tag program and look at weigh ins you can see the numbers have gone up in the past five years! Last Nov I had the best day off LBI ever. 15 releases all over 38" most around 42" Fish were 30 to 45 pounds

Ocean, not bay or spawning grounds

The reality is when you are catching the bigger fish it indicates the mortality of biomass is still in depletion as the rebound is happening it takes time to rebuild a depleted biomass to healthy limits. There is a rebound just beginning in the Delaware Bay River system but it is a far cry from what it was 15-20 yrs back as it went down to zip to no fall run. I hope they allow it to regain itself and it will definitely take some years of juicing the mass.
We need fish to replace the fish we have around now. Gotta try something and its better than a moratorium like in the past.
There is only one reason that the bass fishing was as good as it was through the late 90’s and early 20’s. That reason was the moratorium. When it was lifted there was an unnatural bounty of bass. The masses responded on the internet and invaded the fishery and the slow decline ensued. People who never fished invaded the beach, the backwater at night, and anyone who had a boat had a bunch of new friends. The big boys with big boats and big bucks followed them down the coast in the fall HAMMERING the big fish every year. Steady pounding over 15 years and the easy pickings was over. Now until they find the right slot it will remain more difficult for the bass to reach a steady biomass. Look at Redfish results in their traditional habitats.
