I'm going to be doing my first serious fishing of the year this weekend, and I'm wondering whether it's too early to break out the fly rod. I know it's not too early to break out the surf bait rigs, and I've even heard that a few guys have been catching fish on plugs, but can you catch fish on flies yet?

You probably guessed it, but yes, I am a fly-rodding rookie....

I'll say again. One year just to prove a point myself & another caught bass during every month. Soooooo, Of course you can. Way more fun even if you don't connect. Good luck & lets see a fine report. BTW you are only a rookie once.

It is always fly rod time. The fish may not always be cooperative, but you can try. It is so much more fun anyway. Go gettem'.

I'm with you Belmo. first trip of the year this Saturday!!! I will be trying small streamers and shrimps (got your epoxy shrimps, clouser-ish shrimps, worm-lookin' shrimps, fried shrimps...). Low and slow should get them.
