Time to start switching out rusty treble hooks

I vowed not to get back any straightened hooks when it comes to throwing swim plugs this season. I switched all of my plugs over to owner ST41 hooks. They are nice and sharp with a chrome finish that should last much longer than the crappy hooks that come with saltwater spooks:thumbsdown:. Next project is to tie as many tog and snafu rigs for triggers that I possibly can. This next cold spell should provide enough indoor time.

what do you think I should use for my trigger rigs? I want to go with something tiny but strong enough to handle em. The ones I used last season worked great but they crapped out after 4-5 fish.
I'm going to dress up some trebles for you guys, what size do you use? I looked at the Barbarians at Cabelas, looks like they only come 2-4-6 seems small to me. I'll do them up, then put them up on BB sale board. Let me know what you want to see. Thanks.

sounds stupid, but i started using short shank tuna hooks. owner makes a decent short shank live bait hook, the gorillia. so does gamakatsu.
If you can find some size 1/0 Owner Aki hooks, they are great for triggers, porgies, and smaller tog. They are very strong, but light at the same time. It defintely matters sometimes when they're finicky as too heavy a hook will spook them especially if you're freelining clam pieces for the rhinos.

Some chartruse hooks would be nice. I'm not into the feathers, plain trebs have worked just fine.

those are exactly what I'm looking for. Hows it going man?
you ever have bass break open those smaller spooks on you??? i fish the larger ones and after a fish or two on them they usually crack open or the wire that holds the hook in rips out. and yes the hooks they give you with them are horrible even the schoolies can straighten em out
hey matt, any luck with the bottom left lure? the rattle, i use that lure and i always think it will produce but i do not have a lot of success

Yeah, they always bend and break. VMC makes some really good replacement hooks for saltwater. Fin-Addicts in OC usually has them in stock.

Rat L traps have their time and place.

Thats probably my least used lure. I caught a keeper seabass out front on it last season though:huh:. The most i've caught on it is when i've trolled it with stretches and umby's right off the beach.

yeah bro they go quick.

Dan?? what is it nail polish that those guys in florida were using to preserve them? Might have to try that.

yeah, my brother likes to jig different lures for seabass on the wrecks, when they are around they will hit anything shiny, all seabass were released :)

A thin coat of any clear nail polish will work. Right at the hook loops.

Oh yeah. My old nieghbor in avalon used nothing but crippled herring fishing for seabass and he used to load the cooler:).

Does Keeper Lurker Coverboy Glamazon Chris have any nail polish he can part with?:D May as well start the ball busting now since I won't see him for the next two years. The tog stock should be on the rise with Glamor boy on the shelf:razz:. Do I have a ten pound patch...no. Do I have a 300lb patch as the hogging champ...you bet your japaneese baitcaster I Do:thumbsup::thumbsup:.
