Hey CMTU, WELCOME. It's good to think that way but can you really do it? Another North Wildwood guy.

Yea, the stripers are more interested in whats going on below like shrimp and crabs. It's later in the season when mullet and gunker get their attention topside.

However there is a fish that will take a look at the surface for some action. BLUEFISH. I've seen them actually chase schools of grass shrimp to the surface. The shiners will also get them up top. When you see the birds diving or splashing fish get ready. May want to bend the barbs or replace the trebles with single hooks. Nice two - four pound spring blues on the surface are great ways to practice for the late summer early fall stripers.

I like the poppers. Something about smacking the surface that gets the blood at both ends of the line going. Good luck.

Good luck and watch the birds.
