Guys, just a heads up about a new Speeding Ticket campaign thats going on now in NJ for the next month or so. I know alot of you drive East/West ~ North/South to get to your boat or favorite fishing hole this time of the year.
Here are some details-
Every Trooper is to hand out 1 ticket every 10-20 minutes during this 30 day speeding ticket frenzy that started on 6/6/06.The state estimates that 9 million dollars will be generated.50 state troopers will be on duty at all times patrolling the the 9 main intersections and highways.They are the following:
I-295 north and south
I-95 Jersey Turnpike north and south
I-80 east and west
I-287 north and south
I-78 east and west
I-195 east and west
I-280 east and west
Rt.130 north and south
Garden State Parkway north and south

5mph above the limit can justify and ticket and
they have issued 30 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and are bringing in all the their part timers on full time.

Also -
Driving Ticket Fine Increase:
Starting Aug.15 failure to have your dr.lic.,reg. and Ins.card is going from $44. to $173.
Not having all three - $519.
Fine for hand held cell phone use while driving will be going up to $180.

This was just given to me from someone and I assume its to be true,maybe some of you have heard about this also. But never the less be careful out there and it doens't hurt to slow down a little bit anyway.Alot of drivers out there just have no regard for anyone elses life
based on the way they speed and drive on the highways...

THIS IS NOT TRUE. THIS WAS IN THE DRYDOCK FOR A WHILE. IT IS ILLEGAL IN THE STATE OF NJ TO HAVE QUOTAS .THIS HAS BEEN ON THE NET SINCE LAST YEAR.
ITS GOOD TO BE SAFE AND NOT SPEED BUT THIS IS PAIN B.S.YOU ARE CORRECT ON THE NEW FINES IN AUGUST.

Don't know if this is true or not, but I agree with your last sentence, "it doesn't hurt to slow down a little bit". I've seen people do 85 mph and risk their lives weaving in and out of traffic just to end up one or two car lengths in front of me. These folks don't seem to get the tickets though. Instead it's the guy going 5 mph over the limit.

It seems nothing makes sense in this state anymore,who knows whats in the minds and going on's up in Trenton these days..

Anyway , yea I figured it was in the drydock but I don't frequent that forum much and just wanted to pass it along BS or no BS..

Maybe Im the only idiot who would actually like to see more cops on the roads I used to get to the shore. I have witnessed way too many idiots out there especially on 78!

WHAT????? ... More cops with radar on I-195 East & West? That can't be true.

After all, they already have a cruiser in every nook and cranny along the entire length of both sides of I-195 from the NJ turnpike all the way to Belmar. I don't think they would have enough room for any more without stacking the cop cars on top of one another.

There are no quotas. Also, State has no part timers, nor can the Officers be ORDERED to give out citations. Cars are not Issued to troopers, especially unmarked in that number. 5 mph rarely justifies a citation, as some allowance must be given for speedometer/equipment irregularities, etc..........

I wouldn't put it past the NJSP...
Of course, I hope the stop profiling out-of-state plates if they're really going with this plan... Just imagine how much damage they could do in the long run to NJ's Tourist-dependant economy if the extra $$$ comes primarily from out-of-state drivers...

(Yeah, vested interest on my part, but I don't speed, saving the fuel budget for the boat... less I burn in the truck equals more time on the water.... worth the extra 20 minutes on the road to spend more hours on the water.)
