Or, it could go the other way and we could get access to the jetty from behind the dunes. In other words, if the beach is off limits and the area behind the dunes in not, then we should be able to drive all the way to the jetty and not have to worry about being a security risk to the CG base and the Loran tower anymore.

Or course these things have a habit of not working out that way, but that's the way it should go.

it would be great if they allow us access to the jetty, it would be too much to hope for, but who knows:bow:

Well the new RFA board said they would look for issues of concern to surf fishermen - this is a big one. That jetty can not be made off-limits or our ability to get to other locations will deteriorate over time. At the same time, I really don't want a bunch of fishermen to be able to park at the base of the jetty. I had an interesting dicussion last fall with an employee of fish and wildlife who said access to the high waterline is not infringed upon by the closure.

The writer(Rich Degener) emailed me back and gave me the name of the person to contact and his number. He stated that he will be writing follow-up stories to cover the issue on fishing access. Rhino, it might be advantageous if Fish and Game created a home base at that location. There is a building in place for them to use. That should curtail the poaching of fish

I completaly agree - the last thing I want is another drive up jetty.

I do, however, think that all access issues need to attacked head on. With the current restrictions in place on 2MI I think the piping plovers have more than their fair chance at nesting. Such unfounded access restrictions need to fought, we have to stop this snowball from rolling down the hill.

Maybe they should enact a bounty on the foxes, apparently we should not let anything coexist with the piping plover. They are like a deity to the environuts. Do they need their own private beach? 2MI is more than a sanctuary for those bastards as it is.

That jetty as well as the other side of the inlet has been off limits many times over the years, but i know people who have fished them under the cover of darkness;) my biggest fear from a selfish standpoint would be if they opened it completely and allowed vehicles to drive right to the base of the jetty, it remains one of the few places where die hard jetty jocks can go without a crowd. But if it happens people will adapt and find other places to fish.:(

If this happens the entire area will be closed off. Look at Brigintine and Cape Hatteras. The birder are bird brains! They could care less about anglers or fisherman or access to areas for recreation. This type of site should remain in the hands or the government and be kept for maybe a security site for south Jersey and the DBay. The sites first dibs will be for government facility BUT in the event this does not go then it can be state or others.
With present policy makers in government it will be more likely that recreational sportsmen, anglers and outdoor adventurers will not have access to more and more areas that were open or allowed access in the past.
My suggestion for this area, it could become a great wildlife "management" area to allow sportsman and wildlife to have and enjoy the site. This type of land would allow specific areas to be used of the 550 acres for various uses. Look at Island Beach State park or Brigintine. These places have a thriving wildlife system (animals, birds and marine habitat) as well as access to beaches for recreational purpose. Something like this could benifit all people who pay to play in NJ and CM county. Areas that become "sancuaries" are not good for local economy or anyone. These type of areas ONLY benift a select few. Allowing this to happen will be a great injustice to all.
Anyone know the "value" of land (550acres) in CM county? Could allways sell it off to developers. (HA-HA:thumbsdown:) Lets pray that doesnt happen.

This is what happens, no doubt, when people vote for change.

Vote every incumbent out until common sense and reason return to government. This needs to be the line in the sand that SJ fisherman draw.

So if I understand what you are saying, I can walk the water line for access to the Jetty and I would not be violating any law or act? This is what I always felt was the case here and what I do when I fish this jetty.

who brings more money into the SJ economy bird watchers or fishermen? who is a bigger voting block? the birds don't nest at the water line and that is where the fishermen are so why couldn't something be worked out so that we can all enjoy the beach. Make certain parts of the beach and dunes off limits to everyone but leave paths open that will give us access to the water

Just spoke with a contact person at Fish and Game and from how I am reading it they plan on closing off the entire stretch of the beach throughout the same amount of time, and allow surf fishing in the spring and fall. They don't plan on taking suggestions from the general population, but it was suggested to contact Congressman LoBiondo to bring up suggestions on keeping this open to fishermen. The most aggravating comment was they are more concerned about the wildlife first and human access is a secondary concern. WTF! I should have said the Piping Plover do not pay your salary.

This is about the way my luck goes,my favorite fishing spot since I was a kid is going to close again! They have to let us fish the surf. Surf fishermen do not disturb the piping plovers, we walk the water line not the dune line! If you want to see plovers go down south where they live. A couple of birds made there way up here and now my beach is closed. Plovers don't even taste good they are all bone.

Shot out about 10 emails last night - kept it civil, stated a few points, made my position clear and asked for a bit more info. Emailed last night, no response yet and I dont know if they will ever come.

Who exactly should we be contacting? Senators? Freeholders? State Rep? Fish and Game?
