yes, herring will hit rubber, they will also hit blood worms....and of course the sabiki (sp)

Herring is awsome bait. Can't tell you how many times last year I plucked a half dozen or so near bridges in OC (mainly at night) off my yak, then took them home, cut them into strips and SLAMMED fluke and large blues with it for days to follow.

never targeted bass with herring strips, maybe some of the other fellas have, I mainly use it for the summertime fluke fishin

you would be really surprised how small a striper can eat so large a herring. Big hook, little sinker, hang the hell on!

Guys who fish from shore in the Maurice River use 'em with great results. I've seen them using live, strips, and chunks. My brother caught a 35" last year near the mouth of the Menantico. If you can find 'em live, they sell for a buck-fifty or better apiece.
