Virginia Beach Fishing Report- Team Atlas Reels/Lucky Stripes
We headed down to virginia beach to fish the mid atlantic rockfish shootout. With an open 21 contender center console and the cold weather it was a cold one. Each morning started at 5 am shoveling a good inch of ice left on the ramp from the receding tide. Then we would have to push a good 300 yards through ice to get to open water. The water temperature outside Rudee Inlet was down to around 39 degrees driving all the fish there way offshore between 8 and 12 miles so we had to run south in search of warmer water and bait. The run started out at around 22 miles and by saturday we had to run around 60 miles which with no protection 30 mph winds and some heavy chop was awesome.
The fishing however was on for the majority of the week. The majority of the fish we were on were from 20-40 pounds with our biggest going right at 40. On the tournament days our best 3 fish in a single day total was 96.85 pounds which was not enough to put us in the money. Overall it was a great trip, great fishing, and a great tournament. I will post pictures as soon as I get the pictures from the camera man. With the warmer weather coming this week it should drive all of those fish offshore back inside the 3 mile line as long as the water temperature jumps up enough
