Last night in back the water temp was 53-54 degrees.
It probably dropped a couple degrees since then with
air temps in the low 20's early this morning.

Strikes,

While on the water yesterday, we heard a radio report from someone up the bay saying he was getting a reading of 48 degrees.

We all stopped fishing and looked at each other, hoping we heard this guy incorrectly.

That has to be a 10-12 degree drop in less than 2 weeks. Tell me it isn't so. :(

RedatNight,
I believe the Danger Zone is once you get into
the lower 40's, I have had deceent bites in
water as cold as 43 degrees but lower then
that it just about shuts off completly....

With The Tog, Once the water temps hit 50 degrees
they start their migration offshore towards
deep water to spend the winter....

Yea Buddy,
It's Not Looking Good,,They Took Another Hit
Last Night....
Maybe After Today with some SW Wind and Then
NE Tomorrow it will bring back in some of the
warmer water...But The Outlook Calls For
Some More Cold Weather Moving In During The
Weekend....I would love to see it hang at these
temperatures for a month or so,but I might be
asking for too much with the way its dropping...

Will See,,,

NS,
It could turn and hold steady next week weather looks pretty good. Highs in the mid 50's and only lower 40' at night. Will be out Tuesday night Wednesday morning for theoutgoing before going down to Skip on the Stalker, 12 hours of some hardcore fishing, can't wait. See you on the banks, Earlybird, you are really beginning to suck. I am jealous, when I lived in SP in the early 80's for a few years, surfed everyday and could have fished all of the time. It definately pays to live close to the beach. I also heard of some good reports off of the surf from OC. Go get em guys the fish are there. Good luck everyone, I'll be out soon. Keith the bagman

I think part of the problem is for the past week or so there has been no water in the back. Westerly flow and moon have not let the back fill up. I could not believe how low the back was last night. This little NE'r should blow some water back in and with the warmer weather next week it should stabilize.

This spring we had them in 40 degree water down in the rips. But the lowest I have caught them was 39 in the backwater on clams 2 springs ago. Also had consistent action up in the bay this spring with a week water temp of about 42 degrees...so who the heck knows!
