You heard correctly. If you search back there is another topic on the weakfish regulations.
that's about as many weakies that i've caught over the past few seasons...
Im glad they did this with the weakfish. Maybe in a couple years from now ill be able to go on my kayak and get a good catch of them.
i miss catching weak fish.......

i think it should be 1 fish 12-16" if you ask me. every tide runner that gets cought gets kept....but i won't go there

That is false, I know a lot of guys who release all their weakies every spring. And it not just random by catch every once in a while on a bass trip. I also some guys who kill em, but it is bold to say that everyone that gets caught is kept.

any i catch this year are going back. after a picture for proof of catch of coarse :D

I released the two big ones that I caught in April... 34" and 35" respectively.

I released everyone i caught last year, and always take extra time to make sure they are alright to fight another day!

I think there should probably be a moratorium. That said I haven't kept one in a long time

Gotta agree with that too.... I wanna be able to take my kids out for them like my dad and uncle used to do with me when we chummed em up with grass shrimp in barnegat bay and laughed our asses off with double and triple headers. Stupid fishing it was.
Since the real problem here seems to be the taking of big breeder fish, and nobody really catches more thatn one in a trip anyway, is this really going to help? wouldnt a slot be better?

The season should be closed during their spawning time Mid April to mid May, the fish we catch have avoided many obsticals to get to their place of spawning and just when they are ready to do their thing people are killing them, in a strong fishery taking a couple of breeders doesn't hurt but in this fishery in it's current state it can do a ton of damage.
Right on IGGY!
You all are sadly mistaken if you don't think lots of tiderunners aren't killed. Yeah us smart and conservation minded guys know better, but we are the minority..... We are responsible fisherman but there are tons that take every single fish the are "legally" allowed, never mind common sense
Omg another barn kill tiderunners finger pointing session again? Again? already?? id say stick to the original topic about the size limits.
i think they should close the weakies orrr do a smaller slot fish and save the tiderunners to make babies:rolleyes:.

didnt land a single weakie last year although i did lose two nice size tiderunners at my feet around the last weeks of march/first week of april last season.:eek::eek:

They should put a coastal moratorium on them including the recs and commercials just like they did with stripers. My favorite was fishing for tiderunners caught many kept some released some and gave some away usually depending who i was fishing with. Dont even try for them now but I've slowed down on salt fishing overall. It's great when they are abundant took up many nites.

Ok

1 Fish @16" now close the thread down, no-one can have an opinion

You must be that guy--- the one who takes the breeders for your ego at the tackle shop
ok, yes, it was a bold statement to say they ALL get kept. you have to admit, a lot do.

i just miss catching them in an upwards of 50 a day. and only keeping 2-3 15"ers or so for the table. i haven't cought one in a few years now...only small babies mixed in with snappers a few years back.
