Not sure of the weight but nailed a 31" doormat off AC 2 years ago. Had to be 10lbs+. Awesome fish, threw it in the cooler and about 5 minutes later it knocked the top off the cooler and jumped out in a daring attempt to escape. He didn't make it and made for an excellent dinner. Also nailed a 25" right after that fish. 5-7 foot seas and a lot of lead to keep the bait on the bottom.
Gigged an 8# in Cape Fear River, NC. Rod & reel 7.5# off Spring Lake. When I brought him along side the boat to net, a huge flounder came right up with him. He was easily twice as big like the proverbial manhole cover. My buddy tried to net him first, missed, and I almost lost mine. That was 20 yrs ago.
