This past week has been incredible in the back. Rental boats heading out for stripers. All come back having caught at least one. Now they are loading up on crabs and I mean big ones.
Saturday one boat called in to see if crabs were still in season. Told them that they had to be at least four and a half inches point to point. Came back in with a 27 inch striper and a half bushel of blueclaws. Good mix with some jumbo males. Caught them on their fishing rods. They said the crabs wouldn't let go of the bait.
Sunday a boat heads out and again hits the crabs. Returned with a striper and three buckets of crabs. One was just plain BIG. Measured from point to point. 7 3/4 inches. From tip of claw to tip of claw....18 inches. Biggest crab I may have ever seen. Took a picture of that baby for the wall.
It should remain hot for a few more weeks. They are feeding on everything to store up energy for the long winter sleep.
When the guy on Sunday left he smiled and said. "striper stuffed with lump crab meat"
Friend went Sunday , actually crabbing, in the marsh, behind Fortescue. Ended up with 75, and 1 over 9 inches. Says he measured it too. Hard to believe.
