I fished Ludlam Bay in Sea Isle City yesterday and several areas behind Strathmere without a bite. I also fished some clam for bass but no bites. It still turned out to be a beautiful day on the water. Warm temperatures, sunny with light winds!

We fished Friday, started at full flood, about 11am or so.Made 2 anchors, the first in 6ft then as tide fell off the flats, where the fish were feeding to 10ft at the last 1/3 of the tide.Chum heavy,2 pots, smash some clams and toss up tide and bounce your rod tip every couple minutes so your sinker kicks some bottom.I like to make my own chum, but Bill at My Wifes Tackle shop has great clam logs with corn in it and all.Baits were bloods, earthworms and clam strips, all were equal as bites went, but moving your rod tip was key!Double anchor so you swing,be on an edge and wait out the spot for at least 45min,if you get a few taps but dont hook up,wait a little longer. They are there and I'm back at it Sunday, call BAYHOUND on 69 if your out,I'll let ya know whats going on.

Capt. alc111,
Well, I feel good that I used the same bait and bought my chum logs from bill. I used two anchors, busted up some clams and threw them up stream and used bloods, clam and muscles for bait. I also threw corn on the bottom etc. I guess I just couldn't get a bite. I will be trying again and thanks for the information. Jer

Jer,fished the outgoing again today, the bite took longer to get going I think because of a slow tide.Caught bigger fish, but only 15, 2 that are 3lb plus. When you try again,e-mail me and maybe I can help.
By the way,Fin-Advisor was my victim today and he has a fish for the Fisherman Dream Boat contest.Good Luck Rich!!!

If I anchor with one anchor my bow will be facing into the current or up wind, so should I use two anchors to be more steady or to turn the boat perpendictular to the current?

One off the bow and one off the stern right?

Thanks Fin,yesterday was a hoot!!!Today was a little tougher with the breeze, but the bite was just as good, just smaller fish.Had 3 throw backs, but 13 keepers and 1 19lb striper found the ice. Also had 2 short bass that would've kept last year, same area.

Thanks Capt. alc,
I'm going to try to get out late next week. I'll give you a call.

It must have been me. My buddy called me today and said he was fishing the beach yesterday with clams trying to catch a bass. He watched an Osprey hit the water and come out with a winter flounder. As the Osprey flew over him it was attacked by Sea Gulls and dropped the flounder two feet away from his chair. The flounder was 14 inches and went in the bucket. The Osprey then circled around and grabbed another flounder out of the surf. It was again attacked and dropped the flounder in the water. The osprey circled and grabbed a third flounder and was able to get away from the gulls and flew to the marsh with his meal. Seems like everybody is catching them but me!!! Haaaaa.
