I had a 1994 25 Steiger Chesapeake which I bought new in early 1995. Prior to purchase I went to Bellport NY visited the Steiger factory and met Alan Steiger..I sold the boat in2005. Not only was it a terrific boat but I got caught in an unexpected squall on Delaware Bay and the boat proved itself to be capable of handling the worst that nature could throw at it. I sold it to buy a larger boat and would likely still have it if not for that. Based on my experience I give it a five star rating in all respects.. Power was a single 200 outboard on a cutdown transom; no bracket. A great boat.

Be advised Steiger Craft 25 ft is notorious for having floor irregularities meaning rotting out. It's a flaw of design on this type of boat of which I've known several owners who experienced this type of issue. Hopefully, you fair well. I have a 1999 25ft C-Hawk pilot house whose Fuel tank and the floor were redone. It's part of owning this design of a boat as they are similar.

Yes it handles all water very well, the ride can be rough and wet but that's the beauty of a pilot house, warm and dry inside. The hull will definitely handle more than you can. I used to have a dock neighbor that had a 25 Chesapeake with 150s and he went out to the canyons regularly, he has sold it and bought a larger DE because it's a long hard ride home most days. I do go out to some inshore lumps occasionally when the weather permits.

You won't have any problems with the deck because it's solid fiberglass, everything below decks are composite but that doesn't mean that it's impervious to water damage as some would have you believe. The transom is cored with marine plywood that has to be protected from water intrusion and is stronger than any foam cored material that can also succumb to water intrusion.
The top of the pilot house, front deck and gunnels are all balsa cored and will degrade in less than 10 years if not sealed properly. All factory installed rod holders, rails and any other equipment are very carefully sealed and will last for decades, I have personal experience with some older models and Alan's crew do a fantastic job and he will back up his warranty above and beyond any other builder that I've ever heard of. I have heard some dealers at boat shows claim no wood construction and that is very far from the truth but it should not scare you because wood is strong and light, just needs some attention.

You will love the boat. No complaints at all on my 2019 28'. The 2012 has no wood floor and stringers but they do add wood on the roof, forward deck and transom purely for strength. They are heavily encapsulated. I have weekly pictures from when mine was being built, it will definitely take more punishment than I ever would.
