currently have 406 hz acr model will be needing battery replacement soon would you keep that or replaced it with the personal type they have now which way would you go battery cost around 300.00 or so

Why would it cost $300 for a battery replacement?
I remember years ago having a very high cost quoted to me to replace a battery in a loran.It was very easy and inexpensive for me to do myself.What kind of tricks have they added to these things to try to force ypu to buy new.Is any thing made to last more than a few years anymore?
