aircraft hydraulic oil - the specs and some of the brand names are in the steering manuals or on the website. Do not use ATF, that is not recommended except in an emergency.
hydraulic jack oil is not generally approved by teleflex or uflex.
get a spare quart of the real stuff and use, if you mix atf, which was accepted as temp substitute, you should flush and fill appropriately..
In Emergencies only. ATF will void the warranty and decrease the efficiency of the steering system. SeaStar Steering Fluid can be replaced by any Hydraulic fluid with Mil Spec H5606.
For a list of approved oils, you can read page 46 of the installation manual at this link:
We sell a lot of the Seastat Oil and everyone complains about the price. Teleflex stinks and they jack up all the prices on stuff like that. There was a thread a while ago on here about something else but it ended up leaking or something.
Its not the price. We dont have any marinas out here in Brig that stock boating suplies any more. Neither does AC. I have to drive over to the mainland anytime I need anything. After extensive research I found out that the m5606 rating that baystar recomends is met by hydraulic jack oils which are sold at my local hardware store.
NEVER use aircraft hydrolic in any system other than aircraft. The acid in the aircraft fluid will eat the hoses and seals faster that E15 eats fibeerglass. :naughty::naughty::naughty:
Seastar Pro tilt hydraulic manual says recommended oils are:
Seatar Hydraulic Fluid part HA5430 (qt) HA5440(gal)
Texaco H015
Aero Shell Fluid #41
Esso Univis N15
Chevron Aviation Fluid A
Mobil Aero HFA
Fluids meeting Mil H5606 specs
ATF Dexron II fluids may be used in an emergency
never use brake fluid
Seastars fluid and all of the other listed alternatives are fluids that meet Military Specification MIL-H-5606. If you get this stuff then you know it will be compatible with all of your seals and gaskets and have the proper flow characteristics. It is available all over the place at much cheaper prices than your usual marine supply house in the Seastar brand. Here are just a few sources of supply.
You get what you pay for.Do not use ATF or power steering other than an emergency. Then flush it out.
